How To Live Better on Less (Part I)

I found this fantastic 1960 How to Live Better on Less pamphlet at an arts and crafts bazaar yesterday in Margate. Dan was kind enough to purchase it for me after he watched me giggling at it for a few too many minutes... Perhaps I'll share some of its wisdom from time to time. A lot of it seems very topical, despite the fact that the benchmark purchase price for a house is quoted at £2000!

The bit that hooked me was "How to Dress on a Shoestring"

"A Guide to
WHAT TO BUY - WHEN

Once in three years_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _buy a winter coat
Once in two years_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _buy a Spring suit
Once a year_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ buy a dress and jacket - silk one year,
                                                      wool the next
Once in six months_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ buy three fashion flyers. A
hat...a shirt in the new colour
                                        plus the latest costume
                            jewellery fad. Little outlay...big gain.
For it's the quick bright fashion buy
that brings a basic wardrobe spankingly up-to-date"

Well...I do say! Wish I had that coat on the left
(not to mention those legs!)
The publisher's address is at Old Change House, London.
I could use some Old Change myself, I think!
