I've been going into London every now and then with Dan when he goes to work in Peckham. This consists of leaving the house at the ungodly hour of 5:25am. Ghastly in a way, but this photo is the result of one of the nice surprises I was given for making the effort: sunrise behind Tower Bridge, something I never experienced before. The sun was just emerging when I stepped onto London Bridge. I pulled out my camera and started shooting. This is one of 16 that I actually saved (which means there were probably more like 25 or so that I took). It must have been an exceptional sunrise because even the early morning City businessmen were pulling out their mobile phones to get a pic.
hey Mary, that's a really beautiful photo..
ReplyDeleteWow, you are sedate on this post! I'm used to you being smart-alecky! Is that a word? -- I like it too. It's the first time I've shared it with anyone so glad to hear positive feedback so quickly. It was an amazing morning. It looked oddly pink and hazy. It's one of those things I knew would be hard to capture, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I don't remember seeing any photos of Tower Bridge like that... surprisingly because you'd think it be a nice touristy image. Anyhow, thanks! :)
ReplyDelete..you'll have to get used to the mood changes..bipolarism.. is that a word? - that really is beautiful, probably one of the nicest pictures I've seen of the bridge.. something about that boat looming there..Gabriel likes it too.. and no, I don't think touristy (word?) is the right 'word'.. touristy would be if it was a bright sunny day and all you saw was the bridge, no shadows, nothing, just the most boring representation as possible.. yours has a lot feeling in it.. something odd about that modern warship in an other worldly setting.. from my perspective anyway..
ReplyDeleteThanks! The battleship in the foreground is the HMS Belfast which was originally launched in 1938, and is now a museum of sorts. You can check out info on the history of the HMS Belfast at:

Tower Bridge was completed in 1894, so really the ship is only 44 years newer! Kind of odd, if you think about it...
very odd, that's not the sort of difference that I had assumed...
