Kitty Genius

I stumbled upon the work of Ashley G on Etsy yesterday and am really enjoying it, along with her blog Kitty Genius. I suspect one thing I will remember about this time of relative isolation is the slow, but undeniable breaking out of my creative shell, and this seems to be another inspiring piece of the puzzle pushing me along in the right direction.

The simplicity of Ashley's art is what caught my eye to begin with, and it's what is keeping me looking. That, and what I can only describe as what feels like honesty. A lot of her pieces just make me smile, or remember something... not sure what, but something warm and a little scary at the same time ... something that makes me think of the delicacy and wonder of a childish imagination existing parallel to the 'big bad world'. Think: Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.

Maybe it was her mention of creating "little creatures and animals that I desperately wanted to live in the woods of my backyard" that sent racing through my mind memories of my own childhood of similar thoughts, the hours of climbing trees and make-believe houses of twigs and vine, of playing with my family of stuffed toys for hours on end ... but I only read that after looking through loads of her stuff, so who really knows. No more examination and gobbeldy gook. Thing is, I just like it!
